Nitrate Scrap
Nitrate Scrap

Recommend algae eating fish?
I have 30gal tank with 5 platys and 2 female guppies. One day back, I realized I had guppies fry. And then my nitrate level rose by 20 ppm. I also noticed a small spot of green algae (I think the hair) about 2 or 3 inches below the line water. When I did my water change, no scrap of algae since algae are also known to consume and produce O. No Place I'd like to get something to eat algae (prefer small) to get rid of algae slowly. Everyone is recommending food fund as an option of dining on algae. The problem is that these used to rise above the tank to eat algae. Only one small patch of algae in the top and has not spread in the last 5 days.
Otocinclus, or oto fish are the best in algae.Get eat 3 or 4, like being on groups. They stay small, 2 or 3 inches. EDIT: Otos feeders. They not swim around the bottom tank, decorations and glass. They are much better algae eaters out there. They not really eat algae, leftover food that falls to the bottom of the tank, as most Plecos do. Adding fish to care for an algae problem is not a good number of them idea. All must feed, and they all produce waste, which eventually produce more in your tank, which is one of the algae need grow. You things are better off trying to find out why the algae is growing in one place. If only a small amount in the top of the tank, cleaning, and planning to let the light for an hour or more every 2 day. Also ensure that no direct sunlight is getting into the tank. This could be the cause of a small patch, as you have described. Algae grows in all tanks. There algae spores are in the tap water water. You can use reverse osmosis, which had, basically, everything that had leaked from the same, but the home units are expensive. Most pet stores sell it, but as having a unit at home is expensive. Since you say it is only a small patch, clean yourself, and not leave the tank light for more than 10 hours a day and cover the sunlight that can be achieved in your tank. But if you really want an algae eater, otos really are the best, and are active during the day and swim around the tank, unlike many other algae eaters. They add an element unique to your tank, and are fun little fish.
