Why some feel the need to legislate their morality on others?
Take gay marriage, for example, I understand that you find homosexuality aberrant, but why their moral views have some relation to the actions of others? How would you feel if a group Large Muslims and Jews began to push for banning the sale of pork? What has happend to the concept of personal freedom? Murder is a moral issue, right? Remove from the books then? Edit: Your question whether the legislation could be based on moral principles. My question of whether the immoral act of murder should be regulated by the law is just in this context and has chosen not to answer it. As you wish. Note that not specifically address your example of homosexuality but the bigger picture a moral concept that can easily produce a legislative act. In fact, no law can be written that does not involve moral thinking. The real question is: How Who's moral theory is used to make the laws? We all agree, I hope, that murder is so abhorrent there should be no disagreement about that. However, can not even agree on that. Abortion is murder? If so, should be outlawed. But why did the killing outside the law at all? Because it hurts obvious? According to whom? The author often think that he or she is justified, that they are doing something good outweighs the harm to the victim. As a society, respond to the murderer saying, no, the trial of good and evil is deeply flawed. Ah, but which is itself a moral, a rule to discern what is right and what is wrong. It is based on the value we place on human life, and ensure that the value with appropriate legal protections. By the same token, many of us take the position that homosexuality creates damage, although less evident than murder. That is a moral trial, and in a free society, we are free to do so. Would you support one law prevents me from speaking negatively about homosexuality? I think I could. I know there who definitely. Fortunately, the law arbitrates between us and sets a limit moral of the two, but still, other than with the particular view of morality itself, for what is right and wrong, it should be.
